Afghanistan Loses Match by 3 Wickets to Australia
Afghanistan lost its 8th match of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 against Australia by three wickets.
The competition was held in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India.
Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first.
Ibrahim Zadran’s historic 129 runs off 143 balls helped Afghanistan to set a target of 292 runs.
Naveen-ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai sparked a shocking batting collapse by eliminating top Australian batters.
Haq took the wickets of left-handed explosive batsman Travis Head and right-handed Mitchell Marsh, while Omarzai bowled left-handed David Warner and right-handed Josh Inglis.
But Australia’s Glen Maxwell put in astonishing batting, leading Australia from 91-7 to the final chase of the target. Maxwell scored 201 runs off 128 balls.
Team Afghanistan is due to play its next match against South Africa on Friday November 10.
